Robinhood Is Making Some Serious Moves

I'll admit it. I hadn't used Robinhood in quite a while.

I recently decided to give it another shot, and I've been pleasantly surprised by how much the platform has improved.

The interface is fast, clean, and easy to navigate. I especially like how easily you can switch between accounts at the top of the app. The traditional options chain, with calls and puts displayed side by side, is a massive improvement over what I remember.

And the fills? They've been great in my experience.

Granted, I'm not trading massive size, so I'm not pretending I've conducted some institutional execution-quality study. But for the trading I've been doing, I've been impressed.

Instant deposits are convenient. Eligible instant withdrawals are another nice feature, although those can carry fees. I was also able to transfer crypto into Robinhood, sell it, and use the proceeds to trade the same day. Even getting my margin account set up was surprisingly straightforward.

Now Robinhood is making an even bigger push into active trading.

Here's What Robinhood Just Announced

At its September 29 HOOD Summit, Robinhood unveiled a pretty ambitious lineup of trading products and upgrades.

Here's what's rolling out now, although availability can vary by account:

  • Robinhood Agents: Build AI-powered trading agents inside the Robinhood app that can research markets, develop strategies, and potentially execute trades.
  • Crypto Perpetual Futures: Trade selected cryptocurrencies with long or short exposure and up to 10x leverage on BTC and ETH perpetuals.
  • Robinhood Social: Follow other investors, share trades and charts, and discuss market activity.
  • Take-Profit and Stop-Loss Orders: Linked equity orders that cancel the remaining order when one is executed.

And here's what's coming later:

  • 24/7 Stock Trading: Robinhood plans to expand trading into weekends for selected equities, pending regulatory review.
  • Expanded Options Trading Hours: Eligible stock and ETF options are expected to trade from 7:30 a.m. to 9:25 a.m. ET and from 4:00 p.m. to 4:15 p.m. ET.
  • Earnings Prediction Contracts: New contracts tied to company earnings metrics, subject to regulatory approval and eligibility.
  • Up to 4x Intraday Buying Power: Additional buying power for eligible margin customers, with built-in risk controls.
  • Robinhood Legend Upgrades: Additional AI and social trading integration within its advanced desktop platform.
  • More Device Support: Updates for tablets and foldable devices, alongside improvements to the earnings experience.

Not everything is available to every trader today.

But the direction is obvious.

Robinhood wants active traders to stop needing five different apps.

AI Trading Agents Might Be the Most Interesting Addition

One feature I'm particularly excited about is AI trading integration.

Robinhood is rolling out built-in AI agents and already supports external agents connected through its Trading MCP system.

That means you can connect compatible external AI platforms, give an agent instructions, and allow it to research markets and place eligible trades through a dedicated agentic account.

Robinhood allows up to ten self-directed individual investing accounts in total, including MCP accounts. That doesn't necessarily mean ten independent AI bots are supported simultaneously, but the ability to separate trading activity into dedicated accounts is interesting.

External agents can only place trades in their designated agentic account, although they may have read access to information from your other Robinhood accounts.

Personally, I'm planning to experiment with this using a small amount of money.

The idea of giving an AI agent a defined strategy and its own trading capital, without letting it place orders in my primary account, sounds like an awesome experiment.

Of course, there's risk. An AI bot can absolutely lose the money allocated to it, and automated trading is only as reliable as the strategy, instructions, and safeguards behind it.

But as someone who enjoys both trading and experimenting with new technology, I'm excited to test it.

Extended Trading Hours Are Another Big Deal

Another development I'm excited about is Robinhood's push toward more trading outside normal market hours.

The platform already supports overnight trading in certain index options, including eligible SPX, VIX, XSP, and RUT contracts.

That's a feature I really like.

And Robinhood is now planning expanded morning and afternoon trading sessions for eligible stock and ETF options.

These are two different features, and neither means every option contract can be traded around the clock.

Liquidity can be thinner, spreads can widen, and execution can be less predictable outside regular market hours.

Still, more flexibility is a welcome development.

Add crypto perpetual futures and the possibility of weekend stock trading, and Robinhood is clearly trying to make the traditional market schedule less of a limitation.

My Take: The Competition Should Be Paying Attention

Robinhood still has plenty to prove.

Not every product will be useful to every trader, and adding more features doesn't automatically make a brokerage better.

But I've genuinely enjoyed coming back.

The platform feels faster. The options experience is much better. Moving money has been convenient. Managing multiple accounts is easy.

And now they're adding AI agents, crypto perpetuals, expanded options hours, new prediction contracts, and plans for round-the-clock stock trading.

That's a pretty serious collection of features.

I'm not saying I'm moving every dollar I have to Robinhood tomorrow.

But I am saying that an app I used to overlook is becoming one of the more interesting trading platforms out there.

And if they can execute on everything they've announced, some of the old-school brokerages might want to start paying attention.
